An Open Letter To President Bush

Dear Mr. President,

Below is a copy of an email I sent on March 6 of this year. What has happened in the last week has shown that my plea was in vain (and the pleas of hundreds of millions of people around the world). You have made an awful mistake - a mistake I am afraid my children might still be paying for years from now. How does this end? Who is going to run Iraq? Who were you listening to? Sitting here in my home I honestly feel that I was better informed, from more angles, than you were - and you are "the most powerful man in the world". You were sold a bad bill of goods, by unelected officials, who had their minds set on a certain goal. I feel sorry for you.

I feel sorry for what the history books are going to do to you, and for your complete lack of intellect (I truly believe that you don't even grasp what you have got yourself and the country into). I am embarrassed to be an American right now and to have you as the leader of my country.

The world has changed rapidly, but you and the people around you are acting like the wool can still be pulled over the eyes of America. It can't. People can now plainly see our long history of aggressive armed conflict and puppet regimes. They can see us today supporting countries that brutalize their own people, while attacking one for the same reason. The power of communication and collective global reasoning has caught on to the games of today's Robber Barons. We have had enough. You and your silly friend (Tony Blair), who you have duped and used and will leave twisting in the wind as you install American administration and American companies to run Iraq are the ones committing the war crimes now. How would you expect the people of America to fight if someone was to invade our shores? The sanctimonious posturing of you and the people (Donald Rumsfeld talking about the Geneva Conventions? Ari Fleischer laughed off the stage for claiming countries can not be bought?) in your administration has to end. Your policies have to end. You term has to end. You have done more bad for this country in two years time than anyone thought possible. Shame on you for abusing the power of the Presidency - and for dragging this country down with you.

Subject: Don't Do It

Don't start this war, Mr. President. Only you can stop it - please, PLEASE, don't do it. Millions of citizens in the streets of the world are not a focus group - they are the voice of the world. If this war happens, it will ruin you. I beg you - don't start this war.

Comments

Anthony,

I just discovered your blogspot (linking from a comment thread on Eschaton). You know - it is set up in the same way as Ehrensteinland - great design!

Of course the contents are brilliant as well!
